RE- Sacrifice (lesson 3)

Image
Wednesday 29th June 2022 LO: (evaluate) I can evaluate, by explaining, the importance and relevance of sacrifice to Christians, and what they think about this Today we considered the famous contentiousness objector Franz Jagersatter who made the ultimate sacrifice when he refused to kill others in WW2. Franz was put to death when he refused to fight for his country despite his offers to help the war efforts in other ways. We talked about the idea of why Franz might have felt this way and if his sacrifice was worth it, we also considered if we would make a similar choice or not.

English - Shakespearean insults

Image
Today in English we decided to have a bit of fun, thinking about the Shakespearean language and in particular insults.  Our year 6 pupils created a script to begin with with two or more characters arguing, they then looked at how they could add in Shakespearean insults. The children then acted them out which proved to be incredibly funny.

Fiver Challenge - Sites, stop-motion and spreadsheets

Image
Again the pupils in Year 6 have really impressed us this week working on their Fiver Challenges. We have looked this week at spreadsheets on Google Sheets. The children have discussed potential profit margins, net gains, individual costing and overall castings. Each group are ready to buy their items and make their projects which is very exciting.  They have also been creating fun stop-motion about their product. These have been great fun to watch and are a testament to their knowledge and skill of computing gathered throughout their time at Gurnard.  Their sites (website) is a culmination of all their work on the Fiver Challenge. These sites and incredible and we look forward to sharing these with you in the coming weeks.  Below are some screenshots of their sites so far- as you can see they are fantastic!

The children in Year 6 have once again been working hard on their end of year leavers dance. They can’t wait to show everyone. Mr Lines and Michelle has been really impressed with the classes teamwork and work ethic throughout their lessons.

Geography - Renewable or Non-Renewable energy

Image
This week the children have been learning the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy.  Renewable energy can be replenished while non-renewable energy has a limited supply. Renewable energy includes, hydro, solar and wind, where non-renewable energy includes gas, coal and oil. The children identified different types of energy and decided whether they thought they were renewable or not. Great lesson.

WORKSHOP - The Ridiculous Rhyme Show

Image
Today, UKS2 were treated to a fabulous workshop by Joe and Andy who were CBeebies The Rhyme Rocket. They talked us through all the different jobs involved in filming a TV show. To help, we had our own teams of filming crew, sound crew, hair & make-up, lighting, stage hand, director and producer as well as a team of actors. The rest of the children became the Studio Audience and practiced laughing, gasping, and clapping.  The cast came in and performed a small play (we have some fabulous budding actors at Gurnard!).  There was a great question and answer session too. The children were brilliant and responded with enthusiasm and respect. This was a great opportunity to find out about life in a TV studio and to have something to aspire to.  They then got a small snippet of the Rhyme show first hand.

Science - How does Mutation lead to Adaptation?

Today we looked at mutation, and how a random mutation could lead to adaptation.
